Each week, we will run down the top waiver wire pickups with a focus on the coming week and rest of the season. QUARTERBACKS Terrelle Pryor (vs Steelers)Last week: ByePryor is still only owned in less than half the leagues and while he didnt maintain his early season numbers, he should still find a home somewhere during the bye weeks. The Raiders are coming off a bye week and playing the improving (but still not that good) Pittsburgh Steelers. Pryor has built a successful connection with Denarius Moore of late and if they find each other for another touchdown pass on Sunday, Pryors numbers will certainly warrant a bye week fill-in start. Ryan Tannehill (at Patriots)Last week: 19/37, 196 yards, 3 TDs; 2 INTsTannehill looked very shaky against the Bills on Sunday but his day was saved from a fantasy perspective by his three passing touchdowns. The Dolphins running game just isnt very good though so Tannehill will continue to be relied upon to make plays through the air and its not like he doesnt have weapons in the passing game. With so many injuries at the QB position and teams on byes, you could do worse than Tannehill as a plug and play. Mike Glennon (vs Panthers)Last week: 26/44, 256 yards, 2 TDsWith Doug Martin gone for the foreseeable future and likely the season, Glennon might be forced to air it out more. Glennon has shown some improvement over his three starts and has thrown for at least 250 yards and two touchdowns in each of the last two weeks. Hes got a tough matchup against the Panthers this week, but if youre desperate at the QB position, Glennon should be on your radar. Geno Smith (at Bengals)Last week: 17/33, 233 yards, 1 TDs, 1 INT; 32 rush yards, 1 rushing TDIts been someting of a roller coaster ride for the Jets rookie QB this season. Hes mixed in some great fantasy games (three 20-point games) with some real stinkers (two sub-10-point games). If youre looking for consistency, look elsewhere, but if you want a bye week pick up or injury replacement with the potential for a big game you should consider Smith. Others: Josh McCown (Bye), Case Keenum (Bye) RUNNING BACKS Mike James (vs Panthers) Last week: 11 carries, 17 yards, 1 TDDoug Martin is likely out for the season with a torn labrum and that means James is going to be a very popular waiver pickup this week. The Bucs offence hasnt exactly set the NFL on fire this season but any back that is likely to get more than 15 carries has to be owned. Dont expect James to be your saviour - hes not nearly as good a back as Doug Martin, but he can slide in as a decent RB2/FLEX option for the remainder of the season. Roy Helu Jr. (at Green Bay)Last week: 11 carries, 41 yards, 3 TDs; 1 catch, 5 yardsWhen the Redskins go to the hurry-up, Helu becomes their every-down back. They went there great success against the Bears on Sunday and Helu rewarded them with three touchdowns. He wont score three times every week, but given the effectiveness of their hurry-up set, dont be surprised if Helus workload increases in the coming weeks. Alfred Morris is still the clear No.1, but Helu should continue to see around a dozen touches per week and be on the field during all passing downs. He is a high-end FLEX option with even more value in PPR formats. Joseph Randle (at Green Bay)Last week: 19 carries, 65 yards; 3 catches, 28 yardsRandle doesnt bring a whole lot of flash to the Cowboys backfield but he is their starting, early-down back. Any running back that is getting 20 touches needs to be rostered based on volume alone. So long as DeMarco Murray is sidelined, Randle should be owned. Chris Ivory (at Bengals)Last week: 34 carries, 104 yards; 1 catch, -2 yardsWhere did that come from? Chris Ivory dominated the workload in the Jets backfield on Sunday out-touchding Bilal Powell 34-3 in a win over the Patriots. Its unlikely that the split continues to skew so heavily towards Ivory, but it can likely be taken as an indication that Ivory will continue to see a fair number of looks going forward. He has fantasy relevance again. Others: Donald Brown (Bye), Mike Tolbert (at Bucs) WIDE RECEIVERS Harry Douglas (at Cardinals)Last week: 7 catches, 149 yards, 1 TDHarry Douglas needs to be owned. Julio Jones is done, Roddy White is having a hard time staying healthy and Tony Gonzalez (with the exception of Week 6) just hasnt dominated. Matt Ryan has to throw the ball and Douglas will be a big beneficiary. He looked good as the Falcons No.1 wideout on Sunday grabbing all seven of his targets for 149 yards including a 37-yard touchdown. He is worth a pickup in pretty much any format. Jarrett Boykin (at Vikings)Last week: 8 catches, 103 yards, 1 TDWith Randall Cobb and James Jones both sitting out last week with knee injuries, Boykin stepped up and had a career night. He hauled in eight catches on 10 targets including an athletic 39-yard reception and a nice 20-yard touchdown. The Packers receiving corps also took another significant hit against the Browns with Jermichael Finley going down, so, even if Jones is able to return in Week 8, Boykin figures to maintain a sizeable workload. With Aaron Rodgers at quarterback that means he is worth owning. Darrius Heyward-Bey (Bye)Last Week: 4 catches, 44 yards, 1 TDWith Reggie Wayne out for the season with a torn ACL, Heyward-Bey will be thrust into a bigger role in the Colts passing game. T.Y. Hilton becomes the clear No. 1 receiver but guys like DHB and Coby Fleener should see a pretty sizeable uptick in usage in the passing game. He had played a significant role in the Colts win over the Broncos in Week 6 and caught his first touchdown of the season. He is on the WR3 radar. Others: Jeremy Kerley (at Bengals), Kendall Wright (Bye), Kris Durham (vs. Cowboys) TIGHT ENDS Jordan Reed (at Broncos)Last week: 9 catches, 134 yards, 1 TDWe said pick Reed up in this space last week. If you listened it paid off big. If you didnt, do it now. The rookie is miles ahead of Fred Davis, who was a healthy scratch on Sunday, in the Redskins tight end pecking order now. He is a solid TE1 option for the rest of the season. Heath Miller (at Raiders)Last week: 2 catches, 17 yards, 1 TDDont worry too much about the fact that Miller only caught two passes last week. He is Ben Roethlisbergers security blanket and will maintain a significant role in the Steelers going forward. Expect more targets and catches against Oakland this week. Others: Tyler Eifert (vs Jets), Delanie Walker (Bye), Coby Fleener (Bye) Wholesale Air Max 720 China . Air Max 720 Cheap .C. - Steve Clifford isnt exactly singing his teams praises after the Bobcats won for the sixth time in seven games. After the Vancouver Canucks missed the playoffs last spring, they overhauled their front office and revamped the roster of a team that won just about everything except the Stanley Cup over the previous half-decade. So far, its going better and happening faster than just about anybody predicted. When the Canucks return from a four-day break with a game in Edmonton on Wednesday night, theyll look to improve on a 12-6-0 start that launched them into second place in the tough Pacific Division. You can catch all the action on TSN Radion 1040 at 5 pm/pt. Although theyre still getting to know their new teammates and new coach Willie Desjardins, the Canucks are hoping theyre a contender in their first season together. Weve just kind of come together with a different coach and different players, so its a work in progress, said Ryan Miller, the free-agent goalie who got off to a 10-1 start for Vancouver and is 10-0 with a 1.79 goals-against average lifetime against the Oilers. I think our attitude and our excitement has kind of gotten us through this start, Miller added. Now, we have to come together and understand what it takes to play some of the teams that are willing to play a little bit of a chess match or a smarter game. Although the Canucks are just three years removed from Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals and two years past their second straight Presidents Trophy, the club launched big changes even before finishing 25th in the 30-team NHL last spring, Vancouvers worst performance in 14 years. Longtime Canucks star Trevor Linden was named their president of hockey operations in April, replacing Mike Gillis atop the department. Linden hired general manager Jim Benning and fired coach John Tortorella, who was just one season into a five-deal. Tortorella had said the Canucks veteran core grew stale, and the clubs new brass agreed. They made several changes to shake up the roster - and so far theyre all working fairly to spectacularly well. After Roberto Luongo was traded by Gillis in March, the new regime replaced him with Miller, the U.S. Olympian eager to play for a contender. Vancouver then traded veteran center Ryan Kesler, who wasnt eager to stick around for a rebuild. The deal with Anaheim landed center Nick Bonino and defenseman Luca Sbisa, who have both jumped into regular roles for the Canucks. Bonino, the Ducks third-leading scorer last season, is the Canucks third-leading scorer with 14 points already. Veteran Czech right wing Radim Vrbata has six goals and seven assists in 16 games while fitting splendidly alongside the Sedins on Vancouvers top line. Derek Dorsett has added ttoughness, while Linden Vey leads several young players injecting new energy into the lineup.dddddddddddd But perhaps the biggest boost for Vancouver has been a bounce-back season for its twin cornerstones. Their declining contributions and changing roles were just one reason that the Canucks managed the second-fewest goals in the NHL last season after years as an offensive powerhouse. The Sedins are still killing penalties for Desjardins, but theyve combined for 33 points already this season. They credit their surge to the Canucks improved balance. Weve been able to roll four lines and score timely goals, and thats what we need to win, especially in this conference, Henrik Sedin said. We cant just be a team that thinks were going to score three or four goals every night. It comes from playing well defensively. The Canucks wont surprise any future opponents with their new chemistry, and they arent getting excited about their hot start yet. After all, they won seven straight games early in Tortorellas only season in charge. Teams are playing us like were a (winning) team, Desjardins said. Theres a difference when teams are really ready for you and when theyre not, and were getting teams that are really ready for us. ... We have to be better. You cant accept playing poorly. You have to find a way. The Oilers (6-10-2) know firsthand just how good the Canucks have been, losing all three meetings this season. Since a 5-4 shootout defeat on Oct. 11, Edmonton has totaled two goals in a pair of home losses to Vancouver. Miller has stopped 78 of 84 shots in the season series and has a 1.40 GAA in five career starts in Edmonton. Its just kind of how it has worked out, Miller said following a 3-2 victory there Nov 1. When I was out East you would face teams like them maybe every other year and a lot of the games they were on a long trip coming into our building. Its just one of the anomalies of the game. I prepare the same for any team. The conference-worst Oilers havent been doing much offensively against any opponent lately, scoring three goals or fewer in each game during a 2-6-1 slide. Devan Dubnyk stopped 33 shots against his former team in Arizonas 2-1 victory Sunday, dropping Edmonton to 0-8-1 this season against the Western Conference. It was a close game for the most part, said Taylor Hall, who has three goals and two assists during a five-game point streak. It was just one of those game where we were just a bounce away from being there, but those are the games we have to find a way to win somehow. The Oilers have scored seven goals during a four-game home skid (0-3-1). ' ' '
